Biography

What do I love most about teaching?  There are so many reasons why I love teaching.  I love the excitement and energy that I feel at the beginning of each school year, despite the fact that I have been teaching in the Hartland-Lakeside School District for more than twenty years since graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. I  received my Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I love teaching for the students.  My favorite times are when a student succeeds beyond their own beliefs. I love having that power to help a student realize his or her  potential and help the student build confidence in themselves enough to begin the process of attempting to reach it!  In teaching, every day is a new chance to make a difference.

District Nurse Hartland Lakeside School District Work Phone: (262) 369-6720
Biography

My name is Ann-Marie Meissner and I am the District Nurse at Hartland North, Hartland South and North Shore Middle School. My nursing degree is from Carroll College (now Carroll University) and I received my National Certification in School Nursing in the spring of 2014. The 2014 – 2015 school year marks my fifth year in the Hartland Lakeside School District.

I have been a fan of the Hartland Lakeside School District ever since my oldest son, Christopher, started 5K here in 1997. Since then my two younger children, Emily and Benjamin, have attended school here as well. I am extremely lucky to now be working with such an awesome group of educators.

I truly enjoy building relationships with students, especially those with long-term health care needs. I have also enjoyed the opportunity to help teach the Human Growth and Development curriculum for the 5th through 8th graders. Every day brings a new adventure!

Biography

What I love about teaching is when a student can say, “I didn’t realize how much I learned in your class because I was having so much fun learning it!” or a student can sign a thank you note with the closing, Your favorite student, because I try to make each one believe he/she is

I began teaching in the Hartland-Lakeside School District in 1985.  I joined this district directly after graduation from UW- Oshkosh.  The first 13 years of my career were spent as a special education teacher in 5th and 6th grade followed by transitioning to a general education elementary teacher.  During that time, I earned a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from UW-Milwaukee.  I have been asked if I get tired of the same grade and I answer with a resounding, “Never!”  I make sure to keep each year filled with new learning and challenges for both myself and my students.

My family and I live in the quaint little town of Lake Mills. It’s an easy commute and you wouldn’t believe all of the great ideas I come up with in my office, I mean car.  I am married to a great guy named Steve.  We both enjoy our terrific, challenging, hilarious, teenager named Luke.  Wrigley (yes, Wrigley Field) is our baby; a furry labradoodle who brings our home great happiness. Other than my family and teaching, my greatest passion is gardening (okay, coffee is right up there).  I love to toil in the soil!  My yard is filled with perennials and I spend hundreds of hours enjoying nature.  I also enjoy our town’s very own Rock Lake for a variety of activities.

What does a day in our classroom look like?

Structured Chaos. Emotional, purposeful discussions. Soft-lit lounge. Snuggled in with a great book. Furiously writing a special moment. Wondering why.  RESPECT is the only rule.  Every day has surprises, while still having the security of a schedule and knowing what to expect. We look out for each other.  We’re a family.

I wake up every morning excited to teach! I love the smiles I see on student’s faces when they learn something new and the curiosity that fills their eyes with wonder when given new opportunities and challenges. Band Teacher North Shore Middle School Work Phone: (262) 369-6767
Biography

What I love about teaching is having the opportunity to make music with young adults every day. The musical transformation students make from beginning band to 8th grade band is extraordinary and that, for me, is what keeps reaffirming my love of music.

Mrs. Sundstrom has been the Instrumental Music Director for the Hartland-Lakeside School District for 9 years. Before coming to Hartland, Mrs. Sundstrom taught middle school and high school bands in the Madison area. Mrs. Sundstrom graduated with honors from UW-Eau Claire in May 2003.

The Hartland-Lakeside Band Program offers many musical opportunities for our instrumentalists. There are concert bands in each grade beginning in 5th grade. Our highly esteemed Jazz Band meets before school on Mondays and Wednesdays. Instrumental students can also participate in the following events: NSMS Fall Play Pit Band, Breakfast with Santa in December, Solo and Ensemble in March, and the ever popular Spring Festival Trip to Gurnee, IL. The NSMS Jazz Band performs an annual District Tour in the Spring as well as an annual performance at Hartland Music in February. We partner with a number of community members and regional musicians to provide lessons and sectionals for our instrumental students.
