Biography

What I love about teaching is that things change on a daily basis. I love the moments when students get it!

I knew from the age of 7 that I was going to be a teacher and spent the summers playing school. I received my teaching degree from Carroll College and my Masters from UW LaCrosse. I spent 15 years as a substitute teacher while raising my children. I was active as a youth choir director(17 years), Girl Scout Leader(20 years) and a Youth Lay Minister (15 years). I have been an educator in the district since 1997 teaching kindergarten, second grade and now 5th grade. I continue to take classes and am a lifelong learner. I am a certified teacher mentor, a digital classroom teacher and a member of the district Social Justice Team.

My goal for all of my students is to help them to be respectful of others, enjoy learning , advocate for their learning style, connect globally to learn with others, and prepare themselves educationally and socially for middle school and the years beyond.

3rd Grade Hartland South Elementary Work Phone: (262) 369-6720
Biography

I have been working in the Hartland-Lakeside School District since 1999. I have taught second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade. I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education for grades one through nine. I also have earned a Masters of Arts in Education from Viterbo University.

As a parent, I know that you are your child’s first teacher. Together we will work to make their academic experience as positive and successful as it can be. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions that you may have.

What I love about teaching is working with families and watching a child grow and mature over the school year.

My expectations are that children become active participants in their education.  Our day starts with a special.  After children return we busily get involved in writing, followed by an interactive read aloud.  Students then go to recess and lunch.  After lunch we dive into math and word work.  Students then take a quick break and we immerse ourselves into reading.  The day is capped off with social studies, science or engineering.

4th Grade Hartland South Elementary Work Phone: (262) 369-6720
Biography

Welcome to our world at Hartland South! I have been teaching in Hartland for 25 years and have had the privilege of working with hundreds of amazing, creative, and talented kids. My motto is “WEIRD IS GOOD!” I believe that we should celebrate our differences and be brave enough to always be ourselves.
I am a huge sports fan. My favorite Wisconsin teams are the Badgers, the Packers, and the Brewers. I love to paddle…either my kayak or my SUP (paddleboard.) My dog, Gracie, rides the paddleboard with me and loves to jump off to swim.
I love to travel and have helped build homes with Habitat for Humanity in Thailand and Brazil. I have also traveled to Scotland and Ghana to help out in schools there. I have also been a board member of the Hartland Area Food Pantry for 14 years and am impressed with how generous and kind our community is to those less fortunate.
Helping to establish our school forest program with Mrs. Plank, Mrs. Moore, and Mrs. Marschelak has been an awesome experience. We are very excited to be part of a larger team now that is working on creating an environmental education plan for our district. This plan will enable us to let our students “get out and grow!”
I love watching movies, especially if I have read the book first. My love of movies is the reason that I use a summer blockbuster as my classroom theme every year.

Literacy Coach Hartland North & Hartland South Elementary Schools Work Phone: (262) 369-6710
Biography

What I love about teaching is the energy that fills the room when both children and adults are excited about what they are learning. I love having meaningful conversations about books with students and seeing them actually enjoy learning through reading.

I have been an educator since graduating from UW-Parkside in 1991 with degrees in both English and Elementary Education. I taught first and second grade for 13 years in the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District. During that time I received my Masters in Reading from Alverno College which allowed me to obtain both a Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist license. In 2004, I became a Reading Specialist for the School District of Elmbrook where I worked until June of 2014.

As a Literacy Coach, I spend most of my day in classrooms working with teachers and students during their literacy blocks. I support teachers with the implementation of our new balanced literacy initiative by demonstrating and observing lessons, working collaboratively with grade level teams to plan literacy units and lessons, supporting school teams in the collection and analysis of student literacy
achievement data, and providing on-going professional development to the staffs at both North and South Elementary schools.

Art Teacher Hartland North Elementary Work Phone: (262) 369-6710
Biography

Greetings, my name is Mr. Kreif and I am the Elementary Art Teacher here at the Hartland Lakeside School District! I rotate between Hartland North, Hartland Fine Arts Leadership Academy, and Hartland School of Community Learning. I live in Pewaukee with my wife Aleyna and my little dog, Indie. I enjoy snowboarding, building things out of wood, and going to concerts.

I graduated from the University Of Wisconsin Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education and Ceramics with an Art History minor. During my schooling, I studied abroad with my ceramics professor for one month in Peru where I spent time in the Amazon, Cusco, and Machu Picchu. I have also traveled to Norway and I look forward to someday traveling to India. My travels in these countries have inspired me visually through their art and culture.

A lot of what I teach currently is inspired by my childhood and it makes me happy to provide these experiences for my students. When I was growing up, I would visit my grandparents and spend time in the basement woodworking with my Gramps and later go up stairs and work with my Grams using fibrous material to make projects. As a young child, using my imagination to create something real was a powerful experience. I was given the opportunity to explore these tools and processes and they have stuck with me throughout my life. I value the power and independence I can pass down to my young artists. I am really proud of how my students step up to the projects and challenges I present to them and feel lucky to be their teacher.
